This booklet, which is one of W.H.O. Technical Report Series, is a report of a W.H.O. Expert Committee which met in Geneva in November 1978. The data included in some sections and subsections update our knowledge of the epidemiology and control of schistosomiasis since 1973 (W.H.O. Technical Report Series No. 515, 1973).

In the section on epidemiology the subject matter covers the parasites, the snail intermediate hosts and human infection. The section on control covers the general situation, a review of progress in selected national control programmes, the control tools and techniques, the factors influencing the choice of control methods in schistosomiasis and evaluation of control. There is also a section on training, one on conclusions and one on recommendations. The section on conclusions covers the feasibility of control, the strategy of control and control policies in the future.
