Actinomyces and an Unidentified Ameba Associated with an Intrauterine Device

An asymptomatic woman with an indwelling intrauterine device (IUD) of 9 years' duration was found to have amebae as well as colonies of Actinomyces in a routine Papanicolaou smear. These organisms disappeared after removal of the IUD.
