Koren's Handbook of Environmental Health and Safety is arranged into two sections and 18 chapters (698 pages) to facilitate use as a text in sequential courses of instruction. Emphasis in the text is on the evaluation and control of commonly encountered problems in sanitation, including provision of safe food, adequate water and satisfactory housing, as well as maintenance of acceptable air and water quality. The format employed is novel for a text of this type and includes a review of background material together with a statement of the problem prior to discussion of existing resources, standards, practices, technologies and suggested modes of surveillance and control for each of the problem areas. Individual chapters are excellently organized and provide sufficient information for day-to-day problems and their solutions. Reference to the literature cited in background development follows as a single bibliography separate from the individual chapters.
