This is an impressive work, the product of prolonged study by the authors, who bring together vast knowledge on the one hand of the clinical field of dermatology, and on the other of botany, phytochemistry, immunology, and occupational medicine.

Following a brief Foreword by Dr. Marion Sulzberger, a noted dermatologist, and an equally brief Preface there comes an Introduction providing basic information on disorders associated with toxic plants, including the pathogenetic mechanisms of contact dermatitis.

The first 48 pages of the text proper are devoted to a history of contact dermatitis from plants and of the testing for sensitivity to plants, then a description of all the ways in which plants damage the skin and of ways in which the causes of such damage may be investigated.

The bulk of the book (pages 49 through 728) provides an alphabetical listing of plants harmful to the skin, including species from 1,405 genera in 248 families.
