Although the title indicates that this book is written as an introductory text in pathology and bacteriology, the subject matter in "bacteriology" actually covers the whole field of infectious agents that cause diseases of man. The authors state that it is intended for medical students in the tropics but it includes little information that is not usually taught in courses in general pathology and infectious diseases in the best medical schools in temperate regions. Basic facts in pathology, bacteriology, virology, mycology and animal parasitology are presented in a remarkably clear and concise manner. Practically every sentence is a precise summary of accurate and important information. For so small a book covering such an extensive field, the illustrative material is also well chosen. Appropriate appendices cover Types of Lymphadenopathy, Postmortem Technique, Stains and Culture Media, and a brief but representative list of references book.
