The past several years have seen a refreshing shower of good books on the history of Tropical Medicine, Parasitology and related topics, e.g., McNeal's Plagues and Peoples (Anchor/Doubleday, 1976), Majno's The Healing Hand (Harvard Univ. Press, 1975), Farley's The Spontaneous Generation Controversy from Descartes to Oparin (Johns Hopkins Univ. Press, 1977), Reiser's Medicine and the Reign of Technology (Cambridge Univ. Press, 1978), Warren's Schistosomiasis: the Evolution of a Medical Literature (MIT Press, 1973) and Harrison's Mosquitoes, Malaria & Man (Dutton, 1978). Here are two more volumes worth having on the shelf next to the above, to Scott's A History of Tropical Medicine (Arnold, 1939), Foster's A History of Parasitology (Livingston, 1965) and near to Hoeppli's scholarly Parasites and Parasitic Infections in Early Medicine and Science (Univ. Malaya Press, 1959) and Parasitic Diseases in Africa and the Western Hemisphere (Acta Tropica, Suppl. 10, 1969).
