The first volume of Progress in Medical Parasitology in Japan was published in 1964, 15 years ago. It and the five that followed in the years 1965, 1966, 1972, 1973, and 1978 were written by thirty-five of Japan's leading parasitologists, each contributing one or more chapters covering altogether every important group of parasites of man in Japan, and including some that are rare or unusual. In all of the volumes the authors and editors have emphasized and reported in some detail all of the significant works that were published in Japanese language, thus making available in English a large body of interesting and useful information not available elsewhere, even in abstract journals.

Volume six is the last of the planned series. Japanese journals in recent years have published increasing numbers of articles written in English, or with extensive English summaries and English legends for illustrations and headings for tables.
