The author has appropriately subtitled this booklet "A guide to the identification, symptoms and treatment of the effects caused by scorpions, ticks, mites, spiders, millipedes and centipedes injurious to man in the Australian region." The organization is taxonomic, with the reader being introduced to the general biological and morphological characteristics of the larger assemblages to which the specific arthropods belong. The illustrations, mostly photographs with a few line drawings, are not intended to enable precise identification, but they do provide an idea of what these organisms look like. Although some of the particular arachnids discussed are found only in the Australian region, most (or at least closely related species) have a worldwide distribution. This publication covers a broad range of subjects from grocer's itch to the barking spider. Tick paralysis, scabies, house dust mite allergy and latrodectism are only a few of the conditions discussed.
