The fourth and last of the series Parasitic Protozoa, this volume consists of 10 chapters as follows: Babesia of Domestic Animals by D. F. Mahoney; Babesia in Man and Wild and Laboratory-adapted Animals by M. Ristic and G. E. Lewis, Jr.; Theileria by S. F. Barnett; Myxosporida by L. G. Mitchell; Microsporida by E. U. Canning; Bartonella and Grahamella by D. Weinman and J. P. Kreier; Bovine Anaplasmosis by M. Ristic; Aegyptianella, Eperythrozoon and Haemobartonella by R. Gothe and J. P. Kreier; Ehrlichiae by R. D. Smith and M. Ristic; and Pneumocystis by T. M. Seed and M. Aikawa.

In his preface the editor admits that the use of multiple authors results in unevenness in the treatment of each subject due to the variability in the authors' styles and attitudes. Logically, the preface should contain an explanation for the inclusion of groups which are not protozoa, i.e., rickettsiae and bacteria; more than one-third of Volume IV is devoted to these organisms.
