Antigenic group: Ungrouped.
Original source: Isolated by M. C. Williams and J. P. Woodall1 at East African Research Institute, Entebbe, from pool of 13 engorged, adult female Anopheles funestus mosquitoes collected with human bait on 7-8 September 1959 at Orungo, Teso district, Uganda, Lat. 2°03'N, Long. 33°28'E. Habitat: Low open savannah, 3,500 ft above sea level, inside huts. Storage: Held 2-3 days until blood meal digested, then frozen in electric freezer.
Method of isolation in laboratory: Mosquitoes ground in phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 0.75% bovine albumin. Inoculated 0.02 ml ic in 1-day-old mice in October 1959.
Validity of isolation: Reisolation not tried, but first virus of this type in the laboratory.
