Antigenic group: VSV.

Original source: Isolated by R. B. Tesh and S. Saidiat Pacific Research Section, Honolulu from pool of 25 adult female Phiebotomus papatasi, collected by hand aspirator on 18 August 1975 at Dormain village, Isfahan Province, Iran, Let. 33°N,Long. 52°E. Arthropods were depleted and held alive 3 h before freezing. Habitat: Desert village at 1,500 m elevation. Collections were inside human dwellings and animal shelters. Storage: Liquid nitrogen, Dry Iceand mechanical freezer at -80°C.

Method of isolation in laboratory: Suspension inoculated into tube and microplate cultures of Vero in February 1976. Virus recovered from both (CPE and plaques).

Validity of isolation: Reisolation not tried, but virus distinct from other viruses in laboratory.
