Immunoglobulin Studies in Strongyloidiasis with Special Reference to Raised Serum IgE Levels

Preliminary Communication

Branko Bezjak
University Hospital for Infectious Diseases, Zagreb, Yugoslavia

Concentrations of IgG, IgA, IgM, and IgE in serum, and IgG, IgA, and IgM in duodenal contents and feces, were determined by a single radial immunodiffusion method in 28 patients with strongyloidiasis. The most outstanding finding was elevated serum IgE levels in 14 patients, ranging from 810 to 14,600 units/ml with a mean value of 2,780 units/ml. Thus, strongyloidiasis can be added to the group of helminthic infections which stimulate IgE production.
