Medical Microbiology in the Tropics

This book is primarily geared to the needs of medical students as an introduction to medical microbiology. The various divisions; bacteriology, mycology and virology are presented simply and in an interesting manner. The whole is a compilation of the lectures given to the medical students at Makerere University of Kampula, Uganda.

The author acknowledges that the problems of microbiology in the tropics are similar to those of the temperate zones except in intensity. With this in mind it appears that he has played down the importance of diseases caused by animal parasites. It is noted on the cover however that an additional volume will be published on this subject.

The terminology used is surprisingly similar to that accepted in the United States. A few terms are used that have been superceded by others according to the publications of the International Committee on Systematic Bacteriology of the International Association of Microbiological Societies.
