Microorganisms and Human Disease

The preface describes this book as a medical microbiology text designed for students preparing for medically oriented careers. Printed on a 7 x 10 inch format on reasonably good quality paper, the text is set in clear, readable type. The book was written by the Professor of Microbiology at Oregon Medical School.

There are five major divisions: I, An Introduction to Medical Microbiology; II, Bacteria; III, Viruses; IV, Fungi; and V, Parasites. These sections are all discussed with reference to human disease. The book is liberally endowed with photographs, photomicrographs, and large line illustrations. Most of the visual data are taken from other textbooks of microbiology or parasitology or from Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, National Institutes of Health, or Center for Disease Control teaching slides. The general format used is to discuss each particular disease in two or three pages which include a description of the etiologic agent, the pathogenesis, characteristics, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention and control.
