Protozoan Parasites of Domestic Animals and of Man

This second edition of Dr. Levine's book is organized essentially in the same style as the 1961 edition. The first chapter introduces the science of parasitology with emphasis on types of parasitism and host-parasite relations. Chapter 2, Introduction to the Protozoa, briefly discusses structures, reproduction and life cycles, and history but is primarily concerned with taxonomy. The classification scheme used is basically that proposed in 1964 by the Committee on Taxonomy and Taxonomic Problems of the Society of Protozoologists, but with modifications made by various workers in the field; the uniform endings of higher taxa are the same as in the first edition.

Chapters 3 through 14 cover the various groups of protozoa in a systematic format, and include over 500 species classified among more than 130 genera. Information provided for the various species includes synonyms, hosts, geographic distribution, prevalence, location in the body of the host, the disease caused by the parasite, life cycle, morphology, pathogenesis, cultivation, treatment, epidemiology, control, and other aspects.
