Levamisole hydrochloride in total doses of 30 to 150 mg/kg of body weight was shown to have micro- and macro-filaricidal effects on subperiodic Brugia malayi infection of domestic cats. Side reactions were transient and dose-dependent, and consisted of salivation, erection of body hair, and anorexia. No pathological changes were found which could be attributed to toxic reactions to the drug itself. It is suggested that the drug may be useful in the treatment of human filariasis.

Accepted for publication November 10, 1973.
