Louis H. Miller, David J. Wyler, Richard H. Glew, William E. Collins AND Peter G. Contacos
Laboratory of Parasitic Diseases, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland 20014

Fifty-seven volunteers were infected by mosquitoes with four Central American strains of Plasmodium vivax. After the infection had relapsed, they were treated with a blood schizonticidal drug plus primaquine 15 mg (base) per day for 14 days. Two out of the 57 volunteers relapsed 46 and 160 days after primaquine therapy. In addition, one volunteer treated with a chloroquine 600 mg base plus primaquine 15 mg (base) per day for only 5 days relapsed 223 days after treatment.
