The Health of Australian Aborigines: An Annotated Bibliography

by P. M. MOODIE and E. B. PEDERSEN. 248 pages. School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, University of Sydney, Service Publication No. 8. 1971. No price

This bibliography will be welcomed by specialists in many fields whose interests include the health of Australian Aborigines, of hunting and gathering peoples, and of peoples generally whose small-scale traditional societies are undergoing rapid sociocultural change. In his foreword to the volume, Professor Robert Black of the University of Sydney comments: "A broad view of health takes in all aspects of the environment which may have epidemiological importance. Thus the bibliography includes material dealing with the social as well as the physical environment. Similarly, it is proper to include references to health policy as well as medical and health services."

The volume is an expanded and revised version of a mimeographed working document that was distributed to interested workers in 1966. Nearly 2,000 references are provided, together with many brief annotations. Two indices substantially increase the value of the work.
