Probable Filariasis in a Vietnam Veteran

Fred E. Pittman
Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina 29401, and Charleston Veterans Administration Hospital, Charleston, South Carolina 29403

A 23-year-old Vietnam veteran with recurrent attacks of deep pelvic pain and persistent eosinophilia of over 20% was thought to have filariasis without microfilaremia. Treatment with diethylcarbamazine resulted in clinical cure and rapid disappearance of the hypereosinophilia.

Accepted for publication August 6, 1971.
