This popular text has withstood the test of time. The first edition appeared in 1937, and beginning with the third edition in 1943 through the seventh edition in 1964, there have been twelve reprintings. The present eighth edition has been revised considerably and some chapters have been essentially rewritten. In this undertaking, the authors have been careful to include most of the recent advancements in medical parasitology, including a number of the newer drugs that have proved more effective in treating various infections. Fortunately, the inclusion of lists of references has been continued. The objective of the authors, as in the past, was the production of a practical text, especially for students.

The book is organized under five sections. The first deals with an introduction and orientation to the subject, the second covers protozoa and protozoan infections, the third helminths and helminthic infections, the fourth arthropods and human disease, and the fifth, a technical appendix, includes "technics" for examination of specimens, culturing of parasites, immunodiagnosis, and entomologic diagnosis.
