Antigenic group: Mossuril.

Original source: Isolated by B. E. Henderson and P. M. Tukei at the East African Virus Research Institute, Entebbe, Uganda from adult female Culex (culex) annulioris Theo. collected 2 February 1967 with human bait at Kamese Forest, Mawokota County, Uganda, Lat. 0° 08' N, Long. 32° 13' E. Habitat: Swampy forest with broken canopy and dense undergrowth. Mosquitoes taken at ground level in evening. Storage: Specimens processed without storage.

Method of isolation in laboratory: Ground suspension in 0.75% bovine-plasma albumin (Armour Factor V) in phosphate-buffered saline, pH 7.4. Inoculated 0.03 ml ic, ip, and sc in newborn mice.

Validity of isolation: Virus reisolated.

Properties of virus: Physical: Filterable through Seitz EK. Chemical: No data. Resistance to chemicals: Sensitive to 1:1 ether; control titer 10^5.1 per 0.02 ml, after-treatment titer 10^1.5 per 0.02 ml.
