Information from: R. M. Taylor, University of California, School of Public Health, Berkeley, California 94720, U.S.A., 17 January 1968.

Antigenic group: Qalyub.

Original source: Isolated by R. M. Taylor and H. R. Dressler at NAMRU-3, Cairo, Egypt, from adult Ornithodoros erraticus caught 28 August 1952 by hand by personnel of Department of Zoology, NAMRU-3, at Qalyub, Qalyubiya Province, Egypt, Lat. 30° N, Long. 32° E. Habitat: Rat nest in wall of old tomb in village cemetery in highly cultivated and irrigated area in Nile Delta. Storage: Specimen placed in vial at ambient temperature until tested.

Method of isolation in laboratory: Ground suspension in 0.5% buffered bovine-albumin solution. Inoculated 0.02 ml ic and 0.03 ml ip in 2-day-old white mice on 28 August 1952.

Validity of isolation: Not reisolated, but virus different from any other virus in laboratory.

Properties of virus: Physical: Filterable through Seitz and membrane (APD not given) filters.
