Information from: J. P. Woodall, Belém Virus Laboratory, Caixa Postal 636, Belém, Pará, Brazil, 9 January 1968.

Antigenic group: Ungrouped.

Original source: Isolated by J. P. Woodall and M. C. Williams at the East African Virus Research Institute, Entebbe, Uganda, from a pool of 191 female adult Anopheles funestus Giles collected on 12 March 1962 by knockdown with pyrethrum spray at the Magila Mission, Tanga Province, Tanzania, Lat. 5° 10' S, Long. 38° 40' E. Habitat: Native huts in savannah. Storage: Specimens held in ice water until inoculation in mice.

Method of isolation in laboratory: Ground suspension in bovalbumin solution with penicillin and streptomycin. Inoculated 0.01 ml ic, ip, and sc, respectively, in newborn mice.

Validity of isolation: Virus reisolated.

Properties of virus: Physical: Filterable through Gradocol membrane APD 680 nm. Chemical: No data. Resistance to chemicals: Sensitive to 1:1 ether; control titer 106.7, aftertreatment titer 102.7.
