Antigenic group: Uukuniemi.
Original source: Isolated by J. R. Gorham at Lahore, West Pakistan, from pool of adult male and female Argas abdussalami caught by hand on 7 August 1964 at Manawa, 13 miles east of Lahore, Lat. 31° 32' N, Long. 74° 30' E. Habitat: Dalbergia trees where Gyps bengalensis roost, alluvial plain of Indus River, elevation 800 ft, climate hot and dry. Storage: Ticks held alive until inoculated into mice.
Method of isolation in laboratory: Ground suspension diluted in bovine albumin in phosphate-buffered saline solution, pH 7.2. Inoculated 0.01 ml ic in 1-day-old mice on 21 September 1964.
Validity of isolation: Reisolation not tried.
Properties of virus: Physical: No data. Chemical: No data. Resistance to chemicals: Sensitive to 1:1,000 sodium deoxycholate (after-treatment titer 102.9 LD50) and chloroform (after-treatment titer 102.9 LD50); control titer >107.0 LD50.
