This volume records the papers presented at a 5-day conference held in New York in 1967, the primary purpose of which was to present the mass of recently accumulated data on niridazole, an antischistosomal agent. The presentations were organized under the following headings:

I. Experimental Chemistry; II. Chemistry and Metabolic Chemistry; III. Clinical Trials and Evaluation; IV. Effects on Parasites other than Schistosomes; V. Effects on Various Organ Systems; VI. Immunological Aspects; and VII. Prospects for Mass Treatment and Eradication. An amazing amount and range of chemistry, biology, pathology, and clinical medicine are covered, by experts from many countries, in this prosaic list.

In addition to comprehensive studies on niridazole, data on a number of other compounds are considered. The bibliographies at the end of some of the presentations are extensive and are a useful contribution. This volume is of special interest to those interested in schistosomiasis, and it should be of special value to pharmaceutical companies involved in the chemotherapy of parasitic diseases.
