The arbovirus Catalogue presents invaluable biological data on 204 animal viruses. Information, voluntarily contributed by an international group of virologists and epidemiologists, includes source and manner of isolation; physical, chemical, and antigenic characteristics; natural and experimental host range; pathogenesis; geographic distribution; and the frequency and symptomatology of human infection. This is the first published description of several of the viruses.
The published Catalogue is a facsimile as of February 1967 of a working Catalogue established by the American Committee on Arthropod-borne Viruses and available since 1962 to a limited group of scientists through support of the Rockefeller Foundation and later of the National Institutes of Health.
A synopsis of information prepared by R. M. Taylor with 36 tables summarizes the 204 virus registrations for those who are interested in an over-all statistical view of arbovirology.
The registrations of each virus have been printed as submitted by the contributing scientists and compiled with minimum editing.
