This book attempts to draw together the literature on the many strains of Pseudomonas and Aeromonas micro-organisms that have been related to human illness. With many references to the literature, the strains are described in detail. The format is good. The information is presented in a well-organized manner. Exhaustive detail and species that have not been described in relation to human illness are omitted. The book tries to be all-inclusive rather than critical. It is an excellent bacteriology reference book. This group of organisms apparently has not been described exhaustively in the German medical literature. Emphasis on these organisms is important in view of the increasing role they are playing as opportunist pathogens in human disease.
As medical text the book leaves much to be desired. Only 14 pages are devoted to diseases in man caused by Pseudomonas. Discussions of Pseudomonas as a cause of otitis media, otitis externa, or endocarditis are not complete. References to clinical reports are not up to date.
