The variety and uniqueness of the type of review presented previously is maintained in Volume 8. They range from the elusiveness of "Relationships Between Viruses and Leukocytes" by Gresser and Lang, which encompasses observations reported since just after the turn of the century, to the current frontiers of "Morphology of Small Viral Particles and Subviral Components" by Mayor and Jamison based on electron micrography techniques of the last few years.

Schiffer and Sever discuss the role of killed vs. live-virus vaccine in "Rubella: Recent Laboratory and Clinical Advances." The goal is a non-transmissible live-virus vaccine. The desirability of the development of safe and effective killed-virus vaccines for an increasing number of agents is emphasized by Hilleman in "Critical Appraisal of Emulsified Oil Adjuvants Applied to Viral Vaccines."
