This volume consists mostly of a collection of reprints of articles previously published in various medical and public health journals and dealing with the problems of chronic disease. A few previously unpublished articles and discussions are included. Selection of the material presented was by the Conference of Chronic Disease Training Program Directors of Schools of Public Health. The book's obvious and stated purpose is to provide a textbook for students in chronic disease training programs. The method here used, that is, of reprinting and compiling selected articles of high caliber and pertinence, is one that has been used before with great success. In fact, if instead of this method being used, a new book had been writte ton meet the need for a text, would not the contributors have been selected on the basis of their publications, and would not they have drawn heavily on their own publications for material?
