This is a concise, highly illustrated paperbound book which describes the major nutritional problems of African people. This book is intended more for paramedical health workers rather than for physicians. It is divided into six sections and an appendix of tables of food compositions and related practical aspects of nutrition. The six sections include public health aspects of nutrition; basic nutrition; disorders of malnutrition; foods; practical solutions to nutritional problems; and diets, toddler recipes and home preservation. The author worked in Dar es Salaam and is thus able to write with experience. This is a very good, lucidly written and concise presentation of a relatively simple subject which is readily solved by education and money. Students of medicine as well as social workers, nurses and public health personnel will find this book worth owning. Those working in areas of the world, especially Africa, where nutritional diseases and related problems are common, will find the book most useful.
