Human Infection with Entamoeba Polecki: Report of Four Cases

In a review of iron-hematoxylin preparations from a survey for amebic infection in U. S. State Department employees and patients at the Clinical Center, National Institutes of Health, four cases of infection with cysts of Entamoeba polecki were found. It was estimated that the incidence of occurrence of infection in these populations was about 1:3000. Only 1 of the 4 cases detected occurred in material previously identified as infection with E. histolytica, while the others were found in smaller numbers of cases identified as probable infection with E. histolytica or Entamoeba species, unclassified.
