Omagiu Lui Mihai Ciuca

by 186 contributors. 485 pages, illustrated. Editura Academiei Republicii Socialiste România, România. 1965

Ernest Carroll Faust
Department of Tropical Medicine and Public Health Tulane University School of Medicine New Orleans, Louisiana

This oversized, substantially bound volume was organized by close friends and professional associates to honor Academician Professor Doctor Mihai Ciuca on the occasion of his eightieth birthday. There are several preliminary letters of greeting from his fellow countrymen, followed by a list of 169 scientific publications of Professor Ciuca, covering malaria, bacteriophage, experimental infectious processes, immunology, clinical hygiene, diphtheria, typhoid, cholera in Roumania, typhus, microbial variability, and antibiotics. In addition, 11 texts and pamphlets are listed with Professor Ciuca as senior author. Pages 65–480 are devoted to scientific papers written by 186 contributors, a large majority of whom are Roumanian. The last five pages list the contents in alphabetical order.

In addition to a full page frontispiece photograph of Professor Ciuca and 13 group photos relevant to his activities, especially in the field of malaria, the scientific papers are accompanied by numerous photomicrographs, line drawings and diagrams illustrating the subjects considered.
