Originally published in 1948, "Health Hints for the Tropics" was designed to provide the lay traveler with a summary of immunization procedures, and with succinct advice concerning relevant matters of water, food, and clothing, of environmental hazards, and of personal hygiene. Obviously satisfying a need, the pamphlet now has passed through five editions, authored in turn by distinguished groups of specialists. The current edition, under the editorship of Dr. Harry Most, with major contributions by Drs. Geoffrey Edsall and A. B. Weathersby, continues to offer a judicious and authoritative summary of information essential to the maintenance of personal health under tropical conditions. A careful balance is maintained between emphasis on essential precautions and avoidance of unnecessary apprehensions. In the next editionwhich is certain to followconsideration might be given to the addition of a brief paragraph covering the return of the traveler to temperate areas, and to the need of informing one's personal physician of areas of tropical sojourn in the case of unexplained illness.
