A Report on the Labeling of Schistosoma Japonicum Cercariae with Radioiron

B. de la Cruz*, T. P. Pesigan{dagger}, T. C. Banzon{dagger}, J. Sevilla{dagger}, C. Donato{dagger}, A. Cruz{ddagger} AND V. Castro*

An attempt to label the cercariae of Schistosoma japonicum with radioactive iron (Fe59) gave encouraging results. Adult flukes from cercariae that were exposed to radioactive solutions with total activities of 2.4 µc, 0.9 µc and 0.1 µc, respectively, for 6 hours definitely produced images in 30 to 42 days on photographic films by autoradiography. Similar results were obtained in another trial with 2 µc of radioactive iron.
