Tropical Health Hints by Agents of Her Majesty's Stationery Office

45 pages, illustrated. London. Her Majesty's Stationery Office. 1962. $1.20

Ernest Carroll Faust
Department of Tropical Medicine and Public Health Tulane University Medical School New Orleans 12, Louisiana

This small booklet, with insecticide-treated hard cover, provides accurate information designed primarily for non-medical British foreign-service personnel with prospective tours of duty in tropical environments. It includes succinct recommendations on personal hygiene; prophylactic immunization; communicable disease transmission, treatment and prevention; effect of sun's heat; and emergency measures for snake bite. For the intelligent initiate in the tropics, this guide should be very helpful, although some of the details may be rather too technical for understanding unless a brief course in orientation is provided before leaving the non-tropical homeland.
