Effects of Some Molluscicidal Chemicals on Chemokinesis in Australorbis Glabratus*

By measurement of locomotor responses of Australorbis glabratus to static gradients of molluscididal chemicals combined with wheat germ cereal as an attractant, copper sulfate, copper carbonate, sodium pentachlorophenate, and zinc chloride were found to be extremely repellent in sublethal concentrations. Perception of these chemicals in remarkably low concentrations by this snail was also demonstrated by the inhibition of normal attraction to wheat germ. Some implications of these data are discussed.
