This comprehensive monograph is dedicated to Professor Curt E. W. Sprehn on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Following a brief introduction, an historical account of Opisthorchis felineus, with excellent halftone reproduction of photographs of Professors K. N. Vinogradov, Max Braun, Askanazy, Ciurea, Vogel, and K. I. Skrjabin, and a very meager account of the morphology of the parasite, there is comprehensive presentation of its life cycle, based on the authoritative study by Vogel (1934). The following chapters on Epidemiology and Geographical Distribution contain a wealth of information on O. felineus not previously provided in a single volume. The important definitive hosts are the domestic cat, dog and man, in the sequence named, but domestic and wild swine and many species of fur-bearing mammals are commonly infected in certain enzoötic areas. Thus far the only mollusc known to be naturally infected and susceptible to infection experimentally is Bulimus (vel Bithynia) leachi (referred to by the authors as "transport hosts").
