Two Cases of Sporotrichosis in the Isthmus of Panama

Carlos Calero M. AND Arturo Tapia
School of Medicine, University of Panama, Panama City, Panama

The first two cases of sporotrichosis diagnosed in the Isthmus of Panama are reported. The clinical diagnosis was confirmed, in each case, by the isolation of S. schenckii from pus aspirated from the undrained nodule and cultured at room temperature as well as at 37°C. Skin tests with sporotrichin were positive. The fungus was found to be sensitive to potassium iodide and the patients made an uneventful recovery.
