Department of Epidemiology and Microbiology, Graduate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

P-886, a strain of Sindbis virus, was isolated from a pool of 67 Culex bitaeniorhynchus mosquitoes in Luson, Philippine Islands. Hemagglutination-inhibition, complement-fixation, and neutralization tests showed immunological differences between the Philippine and Egyptian strains of the virus.

* These studies were carried out under the sponsorship of the Commission on Viral Infections, United States Armed Forces Epidemiological Board, and were supported in part by the Offices of the Surgeons General, Department of the Air Force and Department of the Army.
