A New Approach to Helminthiasis Control: the Use of an Organophosphorous Compound*

J. Cerf, A. Lebrun AND J. Dierichx
Institut d'Hygiene Marcel Wanson, Leopoldville

Dipterex at relatively low dosages gave encouraging results in the treatment of ankylostomiasis, ascariasis, intestinal bilharziasis, trichuriasis, and creeping eruption.

It was tolerated well by more than 2,000 people of various ages. Several features make Dipterex of particular interest for the control of helminthic infestation: Broad spectrum of activity, easy administration, existence of an effective antidote (2-PAM).

* This work was performed during 1958–1960 and the first draft of the manuscript was written early in 1960. After the political events that led to the departure of Belgian civil servants from the Congo, the basic detailed data became unavailable and no additional studies could be made; it is therefore impossible for the authors to comply with the suggestions made by various specialists to obtain additional data to improve the quality of some parts of this paper. Nevertheless we believe the data to be of sufficient interest to have this paper published as a complement to papers cited under references 3 and 4.
