Insecticide Resistance of Body Lice in the Sudan Republic

M. Qutubuddin
Ministry of Health, Gezira Research Station, Wad Medani, Sudan Republic

Body lice from Wad Medani in the Sudan Republic, tested with the World Health Organization kit, showed an LC50 of 2.4% for DDT and 1.15% for BHC. These values indicate, respectively, an 8- and 12-fold increase since 1954 in the tolerance to these insecticides; resistance to either insecticide was 25 times that of normal strains of lice. Susceptibility of the lice to pyrethrins was normal.
