J. H. E. T. Meuwissen
Department of Public Health, Division of Malariology, Hollandia, New Guinea Netherlands

Three months after the initiation of a test project wherein pyrimethaminised salt was distributed among the population in a holoendemic malaria region in Netherlands New Guinea, Plasmodium falciparum appeared to have developed resistance to pyrimethamine. This strain also was found to be cross-resistant to proguanil (Paludrine®).
