1. The use of media treated with streptomycin or penicillinincreased the number of positive cultures of E. histolyticaobtained from stool specimens containing cysts.
2. It seemedthat the favorable influence on amebic cultivationwas due tothe inhibition of the mixed bacterial flora inducedby thesedrugs.
3. Streptomycin suppressed the aerobic bacteria insome of thecultures and it was observed that slants of Endamoebamediumoverlaid with serum-saline supported the growth of certainanaerobicbacteria under aerobic conditions.
4. In some instances, failure of amebic cultivation may havebeen related to antibioticinfluences created by the microbiologicpopulation.
